Temperature Settings
Most gas control valves have letter or number settings. A or LOW: approximately 90°F (32°C) — warm, for mild climates or when conserving energy. B or MED: 120°F (49°C) — recommended for most households, safe and energy-efficient. C or HOT: 140°F (60°C) — for dishwashers without internal heaters or high-demand homes. Markings vary by brand — refer to your manual.
Pilot Lighting Procedure
1) Turn the gas control knob to OFF and wait 5 minutes for gas to dissipate. 2) Turn the knob to PILOT. 3) Press and hold the reset button. 4) Light the pilot using the piezo ignitor button or a long lighter. 5) Continue holding the reset button for 30-60 seconds. 6) Release the button — the pilot should stay lit. 7) Turn the knob to ON. If the pilot will not stay lit, the thermocouple may need replacement.
Vacation Mode
Some gas control valves have a VACATION or LOW setting. This keeps the pilot lit but maintains a lower water temperature (approximately 50-60°F). This saves energy when you are away but does not risk the pilot going out (which would happen if you turned the valve OFF). Use vacation mode for absences of 3+ days.
