FortisBC Winter Watch Program — Free Furnace Service for Vancouver Seniors

Published: July 21, 2026 — CANRO Heating & Cooling — Greater Vancouver, BC

Program Overview

FortisBC Winter Watch program provides free furnace safety inspections for income-qualified seniors (65+) in BC. The program includes a professional inspection of your gas furnace, cleaning of the burner assembly, heat exchanger inspection for cracks, safety control testing, and carbon monoxide testing. The service is completely free.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify: you must be 65 years or older, own and live in your home, have a gross household income below the threshold (varies by household size, check FortisBC website), and have a gas furnace as your primary heat source. Renters may qualify if the landlord agrees to the inspection.

How to Apply

Call FortisBC directly or visit their website to check eligibility and schedule. The program runs from October to March. Spaces fill quickly — apply early in the fall. If you do not qualify, ask about the BC Home Energy Assistance Program or CleanBC income-qualified programs.

Safety Reminder

If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide or believe there is an immediate danger, leave the property and contact emergency services or the appropriate gas emergency authority. Do not remain inside — exit the building immediately and call for help from outside.
